How many types of swords

A Sword is a bladed weapon (edged weapon) mostly used for cutting or thrusting. The exact definition of the term varies with the historical era or the geographical area under consideration. In history, the sword developed in the Bronze Age, evolving from the blade; the earliest specimens date to ca. 1600 BC. The Iron Age sword is short and without a cross guard. The spatha was developed in the Late Roman army became the ancestor of the European sword of the Middle Ages. Classical Arming sword with cross guard was developed in the High Middle Ages. By the 19th century, swords used either traditional weapon or sport equipment in fencing.
